Mounting height and reach

Center the touch area in a reach zone that works for seated and standing users. A practical target is 48 to 52 inches from the floor to screen center. Keep the lowest actionable control at or above 15 inches. Keep the highest actionable control at or below 48 inches.


Clearance and approach

Allow clear floor space in front of the screen. Avoid tight corners where a wheelchair cannot align with the display. Use stands that leave knee and toe clearance.


Visual clarity

Use high contrast color pairs and readable type. Body text at 24 points or larger. Primary buttons at 36 points or larger. Avoid low contrast pastels. Provide strong focus states and pressed states for all controls.


Simple task flows

Limit steps. Show one decision at a time. Use short labels. Add a Back control and a Home control on every screen. Avoid timeouts unless required for privacy. If a timeout is required, show a visible countdown.


Multimodal input

Support on screen keyboard. Support barcode scan where useful. Offer a call staff option for assistance. If audio prompts are used, add a hardware volume control or a large on screen control.


Error handling

Write errors in plain language. Explain the fix. Keep user input when possible so the person does not need to start over. Log errors for later analysis.


Cleaning and hygiene

Provide cleaning guidance to staff so clarity and touch accuracy stay consistent. Use 70 percent IPA on microfiber. Never spray liquid directly on glass.
