ELO Displays Don’t Need Constant Connectivity

Every ELO Android or Windows system (Backpack, I-Series, Touchcomputer) can run fully offline.
The display’s internal storage hosts your apps and media locally, so once content is loaded, it continues functioning even if Wi-Fi drops.

For example, a retail display can loop promotional videos for months without ever connecting to the cloud again.

What Works Offline

  • Local apps installed directly on the device.

  • Media playlists stored on internal memory or microSD.

  • POS software using cached transactions until reconnected.

  • Touch input and peripherals (barcode readers, MSR, etc.).

Even without internet, everything hardware-related still functions: power, touch, and display are independent from the network.

What Requires Internet

  • ELOView remote management. You can’t update firmware or push content remotely.

  • Real-time data apps. Dashboards or live feeds will pause until reconnected.

  • Cloud-based analytics or monitoring.

To work around this, schedule periodic sync windows, for example, connect once daily for 10 minutes to update content or reports.

Real Example

A mining company uses ELO I-Series kiosks underground where Wi-Fi is unavailable.
They load inspection apps locally and sync data automatically when the units reconnect above ground. The displays operate offline for up to 48 hours continuously.

Final Thoughts

ELO devices are built to work anywhere, connected or not.
By storing apps and content locally and syncing only when needed, you get both reliability and autonomy for installations in challenging environments.
