Understanding the Core Design
The ELO Backpack is built as a compact, Android-powered compute module.
Its main goal is to bring smart connectivity to a single display—not to act as a multi-output graphics server. While technically capable of driving more than one monitor through HDMI splitters, doing so comes with tradeoffs in speed, resolution, and control.
At its core, the Backpack offers one HDMI 2.0 port, supporting up to 4K at 60 Hz, plus USB and Ethernet connectivity. These are optimized for one high-quality display with touch interactivity.
Real-World Configurations
1:1 Ratio (Best Practice)
One Backpack per screen. This setup maximizes performance and reliability. It allows ELOView remote management, touch calibration, and smooth playback—all without signal loss or lag.
1:2 Ratio (Possible, but Limited)
Using an HDMI splitter, you can duplicate one video feed on two displays.
However, touch input will only work on one display. The second screen mirrors the content, ideal for non-interactive signage.
1:Many Networks (Recommended for Scale)
Instead of splitting video, deploy multiple Backpacks linked through ELOView.
Each device runs the same app or content set, synchronized remotely from one dashboard. This is the most scalable and serviceable method for retail chains, healthcare, and corporate networks.

In comparison, a dual-display setup using one Backpack may seem cheaper, but adds complexity, slower performance, and no remote visibility for the mirrored screen.
Final Thoughts
While one Backpack can technically power two mirrored displays, best practice is one Backpack per screen.
This ensures consistent performance, easier troubleshooting, and true scalability for future expansion.
